Switch SurveyMajor surveying company Switch went out into the streets of New York City to talk to 50 locals on their take on the Soda Ban. No surprise there, you would have to be living under a rock not to know about the ban judging off the results in the first graph. Only a fraction of the street lookers weren't aware of the ban. Makes you wonder if you surveyed 5,000 people.
Out of the ones that were aware of the ban, of course you guessed it 70% opposed it. Leaving the other 30% in dust, but believe it or not the ones that were for it were unaware that targeted other drinks that "hit home" like sweet tea, coffee, and sports drinks. Then Switch ask them a series of opinions to choose out of and a whopping 50% felt that the soda ban encroaches them from their freedom of choice. Others agreed that Mayor Bloomberg ban was necessary and a little under 18% said it should mainly be enforce on children. |
Bloomberg CampaignBloomberg's short and simple campaign "Are You Pouring On The Pounds" target the opposers that weren't on board with the ban. The campaign displayed charts of all sorts from how many packets of sugar we were consuming in a single serving of soda to the amount of cardio you would have to do just to burn off a single can or bottle of cola.
Chart to the left gives details that a New York resident would understand because it gives examples of street to street scenario. For example if you drink a large size lemonade or sweet tea, you would have to walk 4 1/2 miles just to burn it off. 3 miles from brooklyn to union square for a coke. Below is another chart of the amount of teaspoons of sugar and calories that goes into our favorite sugary beverages that we all love to drink. |
